In Loving Memory

Rest in Peace, Dr. Leonard, your work here is done.

The ASL Cancer Fund Board of Trustees, and the family of Dr. Leonard, would like to thank you for your steady and generous friendship, support and love over the past 30+ years. We were able to get some really great things done!

I think we can all agree that we were lucky to have known Doc, and the impact he had on our lives, and on countless patients’ lives, will never be forgotten. What a legendary life he lived.

Dr. Saltzman is making sure that the cancer research continues in Doc’s memory, and we are so excited for what the future holds for the work in the lab and FDA human trials.

From the endless lives Doc mended and saved at the University of Minnesota Surgery Department, to the establishment of Dr. Leonard’s Chair in Pediatric Surgery in 2004, and his Service and Philanthropy Award in 2010, to his Golden Head Cane Award in 2019, and his many medical devices that are still being used daily in operating rooms around the world, Dr. Leonard remains one of the most interesting people we know.

Doc’s favorite hobbies were growing Dahlia flowers, his vintage cars, hunting and fishing, making homemade bread, and swimming. Time with family enjoying these hobbies together, were the best. When he and I worked side by side in the yard and garden, it was important to goof off and have fun while we worked, which we were successful at most days!

I know we all have a bit of a hole in our hearts as we say goodbye to this amazing person. He made it to 94 and 4 days old, and lived every one of those to the fullest, from what I observed. His favorite message in speeches that he would give, was to “query the unknown”.

Thinking about Arny wherever he is today, querying a whole new unknown, makes my heart full. Thank you for your continuing to support for Doc’s cancer research, with our year-end fundraising in memory of Dr. Leonard.

Until we meet again,

Bonnie

P.S. You will find a nice announcement from the University of Minnesota here and his obituary here.
